Boise-area hospitals say formula packets could have been recalled | Health & Fitness | Idaho Statesman
New parents who received complimentary samples of the powdered infant formula Similac from Treasure Valley hospitals are urged to check the lot numbers and see if they are included in a national recall.
Saint Alphonsus and St. Luke’s systems have been told by the company that manufactures Similac that free samples could be part of the current supply of infant formula now being recalled in the United States.
The company chose to recall the formula after an internal quality review detected the possibility of the presence of a small common beetle in the product.
The United States Food and Drug Administration said the beetle-laced formula poses no immediate health risk, but babies who drink it could experience gastrointestinal discomfort.
The recall also affects Similac powdered formula purchased at retail outlets.
