Asteroid 2012 LZ1 Twice as Big as Thought | Asteroid Threats | LiveScience

Image
Asteroid 2012 LZ1 is roughly spherical and rotates once around every 10-15 hours. This detailed image was taken when the asteroid was 6 million miles (10 million kilometers) away. The resolution is 25 feet (7.5 meters), equivalent to seeing a basketball in New York City from Puerto Rico. CREDIT: USRA View full size image A massive asteroid that zipped by Earth last week is actually twice as large as scientists originally thought, new radar images of the behemoth space rock reveal. Asteroid 2012 LZ1 sailed within 3.3 million miles (5.3 million kilometers) of Earth at its closest approach on June 14. Since that distance is roughly 14 times the distance between Earth and the moon, the oblong-shaped asteroid 2012 LZ1 never posed a threat of colliding with our planet. But the flyby did allow astronomers to train the planetary radar system at the [...] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Follow SPACE.com on Twitter @Spacedotcom . We're also on Facebook and Google+ . ...

Lisa Brown: Silenced for saying (shock!) 'vagina' - CNN.com

Image
Editor's note: Lisa Brown is serving her second term as a state representative for Michigan, representing the 39th District, which includes Commerce Township, West Bloomfield and Wolverine Lake. (CNN) -- One week ago, the Michigan House of Representatives was taking up some of the most restrictive anti-choice legislation in the country . It was in the context of this bill that I said, "Finally Mr. Speaker, I'm flattered that you're all so interested in my vagina, but 'no' means 'no.'" You can watch me say that here . My comment is made around the 1:50 mark, and you can see exactly how the legislators seated behind me reacted. While there was a scatter of applause from my colleagues, there were no dropped jaws, bulging eyes or fainting. In fact, the only remarkable thing about their response is that there was [...] Full article at  cnn.com vagina vagina vagina Posted via email from Moments of Awareness...

The secret gay agenda - CNN.com

TED is a nonprofit organization dedicated to "Ideas worth spreading" which it makes available through talks posted on its website . Grand Rapids, Michigan (CNN) -- I wonder if black people would be still in the fields picking cotton today if the 13th Amendment -- the one abolishing slavery -- was placed on the ballot back in 1865. I wonder if Hillary Clinton would be at home baking cookies instead of serving as secretary of state if women's suffrage was put to a vote back in 1919. In other words, I wonder just how far along we would be as a society if the oppressive majority held all of the legislative and judicial power over the oppressed minority, [....

Adidas cancels 'shackle' shoes after outcry - CNN.com

Image
(CNN) -- German sports apparel maker Adidas has withdrawn its plans to sell a controversial sneaker featuring affixed rubber shackles after the company generated significant criticism when advertising the shoe on its Facebook page. The high-top sneakers, dubbed the JS Roundhouse Mids, were expected to be released in August, according to the Adidas Originals Facebook page. "Got a sneaker game so hot you lock your kicks to your ankles?" a caption below a photo of the sneakers read. The June 14 post prompted plenty of criticism from around the Web, with many [...] Full article at  cnn.com Ya know, it's probably a condition of my ethnicity that I thought these were part of the 'prison chic' fad, never even considered a tie to slavery until I read about the hullabaloo around 'em. Not that it'd be any less of a concern if kids are idolizing ex-cons, but that's also not surprising, considering that we glorify a lifesty...
