Boise State wins Pac-10 wrestling championship | Boise State Sports | Idaho Statesman

The Boise State wrestling team claimed its sixth Pac-10 title and four Broncos won individual championships Sunday in Corvallis, Ore.

The Broncos, who lost star Kirk Smith to injury, got a tough fight from Oregon State. The Broncos scored 147 points; the Beavers had 137.5.

ā€œIt was a battle,ā€ said coach Greg Randall, whose program has won three of the past four Pac-10 titles. ā€œWe had to fight hard.ā€

Seven Broncos earned automatic bids to the NCAA tournament, which begins March 17. Smith is a lock for an at-large bid, and the other two lineup regulars are at-large possibilities.

Boise Stateā€™s four champions were senior Andrew Hochstrasser (133 pounds), junior Jason Chamberlain (149), senior Adam Hall (157) and senior Kurt Swartz (165). Hall, ranked No. 2, beat No. 4 Bubba Jenkins of Arizona State in an overtime marathon.
