North Korean state media has reported the discovery of the lair of a unicorn ridden by an ancient Korean king. But that doesn't mean the entire country is living in a fantasy world.

In fact, the report is a propaganda piece likely geared at shoring up the rule of Kim Jong Eun, North Korea's young and relatively new leader, said Sung-Yoon Lee, a professor of Korean studies at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. Most likely, North Koreans don't take the report literally, Lee told LiveScience.

"It seems that North Korea is now a bit more shy, more responsible in adhering to the facts, because maybe they realize that there is much more information available within North Korea and also information about North Korea that is accessible to outsiders," Lee said.

Part of what I enjoy about some reality shows ('Real Housewives...', 'Top Chef', 'ANTM', Project Runway', and a few others) is that as they progress I see the people on them and the people who watch them learning as we go. There's 'holding oneself to a standard of behavior', and there's 'fake'. There's 'strong and assertive', and there's 'aggressive and unpleasant'. There's 'amusingly vulgar' and there's 'perversely profane'. There's fantasy, North Korea, and there's reality. Your people will rally behind you if they feel your governance of them is solid and appropriate, not because you fed them a sufficiently convincing party line, but because you fulfilled your obligations. If not, in this age, you will lose their support and you'll be required to rethink and reorganize your methods. It's not the end of the world either way (although, who knows, it might be in eighteen days :D ).
