Monday, August 1, 2011 | The Wildest of the Wild | The Owyhee Canyonlands form one of the most rugged areas in Idaho. The rivers that run through them are some of the best canyon white water in the nation. As the BLM now considers how to manage these areas, speak up to keep them pristine for future generations. | The First in 29 years The Owyhee Public Lands Managment Act was passed by Congress in 2009. This piece of legislation designated 517,000 acres of wilderness in the Owyhee and over 300 miles of Wild and Scenic Rivers. Now the BLM is crafting new management plans for these areas and it is a great time to speak up for wildlife habitat (think sage-grouse and pronghorn), clean and wild rivers, and wilderness for future generations.
