BBC News - Pilot whale deaths off Ireland under investigation

Help

Conservationists are trying to find out why 33 pilot whales beached and died off the coast of County Donegal in Ireland.

They say sonar equipment could be to blame, but the Royal Navy says its closest ship was 50 miles away and would not have interfered with the whales from that distance.

Alexandra Mackenzie reports.

What it sounds like to me is like the sick whales had determined it was time for them to go, some of the healthy whales would rather accompany them to the other side than live without them, they had a hey-day performing for the humans, amusing themselves in their last days, and they went out the quickest, most effective way they could. Kinda beautiful in it's way, death with dignity.
