Random Thoughts from August 4-October 31, 1999
Is it just me, or is there suddenly a pill, spray, potion or powder for everything?

It's funny, isn't it, how the vast majority of humans engaged in the search for life as we know it are looking for life like no life ever seen on this planet, compleatly overlooking that life as they know it may Be just that, exactly as they know it...

Technology is good. Humanity, the human specie, is a natural part of evolution. (Otherwise there would Be no humans, right?) The things that have Been brought about by humanity, like highways, buildings, computers and combustion engines are no more wrong or bad or evil than the stick the chimpanzee sticks into the termite mound in order to get a meal. The problems surrounding these inventions come when the inventors use them with arrogance, without respect. Humanity AssUMes that it's impact on the physical world is profound, and it is correct when it is speaking in terms of it's effect on humanity's ability to continue to exist as we know it on this particular physical plane. Humanity (largely) does not consider the other inhabitants of it's physical plane to Be worthy teachers, though many are trying to change this particular attitude and they are to Be commended. It is fortunate for the physical plane upon which humanity exists that the particular combination of arrogance and disrespect that humanity chooses to display is self-destructive. It is unfortunate for the human specie that it is bent upon failing to realise that it is capable of higher thought.

Isn't love... about friendship, trust, AssUM(e)ing the best about one's significant other? Why then... is it portrayed as Being about sneaking around, searching for what must Be wrong, giving in to temptation... in popular culture? It's sad that the myth is perpetuating the reality in society...

Is it just me, or is there an awful lot of guesswork going on in today's science?

Spam, Junk Mail, Banner Ads & Telephone Solicitation (or, The Facilitators of the American Dream): Okay, I have a problem with unscrupulous buttmunches that send bulk email just to promote a stupid personal or offensive WWWeb site from an address they have every intention of abandoning immediately, or just to get people to reply "with Remove in the subject line" with the sole purpose of collecting the email addresses of unsuspecting victims to whom they will then send bulk email just to promote a stupid personal or offensive WWWeb site from an address they have every intention of abandoning immediately with the justification that "This is not SPAM because you wrote to me once" or some such idiot reasoning while their effluvia crashes servers and convinces otherwise reasonable people that the Internet should not Be host to any sort of attempt at gainful employment except by those who've proven their self-responsibility by building really really big profitable enterprises. BUT... in truth, advertising, like personal conduct not affecting those around one, isn't something that ought to Be legislated. It ought to Be dictated by consumer response. And consumers are responding to banner ads in particular by utilising the resources which are kept free through the use of such. Unfortunately, the same people who want the free stuff are now turning around and complaining about the advertisements that keep said services free... Can't have it both ways, folks... As for telephone solicitations, yes, they're annoying. Yes, they call at absolutely the wrongest times. But ya know, rather than jumpin' down the caller's throat, we might want to try and remember that they're doing a job, the way they've Been trained to do it, probably working for minimum wage or less plus commission. Sure, tell them to take you off their list, but unless they respond inappropriately, why make what must Be one of the world's crappiest jobs worse for them? Perhaps this annoyance needs to Be taken up with the companies their Selfs? Perhaps it would Be more effective to refuse to utilise the services for which they're having their people solicit? I can't say it would help, but it seems a more sensible approach than shooting the messenger.

Was Gabby's sleeping with Antonio really necessary to the story-line? Wouldn't it Be nice just once for the paranoia of the 'protective' party (in this case Carmen) to Be completely unfounded, for there to have been no... uhn... foul play?

There's nothing the least bit deep or profound about truth, spirituality or the Universe, except for the realisation that truth, spirituality and the Universe are.

Are fleas affected by caffeine?

Government conspiracy theories, lasting phobias created by past trauma, and distant detached versions of God are all elaborate ways to relieve one's Self of personal responsibility.
